Presets paste a published 2026 planning band into the target. They do not calculate a new trip price.
Use the real total from Disney, Cruise, all-inclusive, or Trip Plan.

Normal monthly spending
1.6¢ is the blended earn used everywhere else on this site. 2¢ is a what-if, not a card recommendation. Cash only ignores points.
Common 2026 estimates (conservative first-year offset on a $5,000 trip): Chase Sapphire Preferred ~$938 · Capital One Venture X ~$855 · Amex Gold ~$1,000. Confirm on the card finder.

How we got these numbers
The monthly target is the trip cost, minus cash already saved, minus points on spending you already do, divided by the months left. Weekly is that amount divided by 4.333. The 8%-of-take-home line is a sustainability check, not a moral rule. Disney $7,500, cruise $2,800 for two, and all-inclusive $7,000 are the planning bands already published on those calculators. Hawaii $5,800 and Europe $7,500 are the low ends of the bands on the Big Trip page. The road-trip preset is $2,010, the sum of the Smoky Mountains sample on the trip expense tracker. The 1.6¢ blended return is what a normal-but-thoughtful card spender earns across grocery, gas, and dining. Cash-only mode is the trip sinking fund with points turned off.

Vacation savings calculator — common questions
How much should I save for a trip?
Price the trip, subtract cash already saved and any points on spending you already make, then divide by the months left. A $6,000 trip with $500 saved and points turned off leaves $5,500. This page does that division and shows the weekly number too.
How much should I save for vacation per month?
Subtract what you have already saved, and any points on spending you already make, from the trip cost. Divide by the months until you leave. That is the monthly cash target. Divide by about 4.33 for the weekly target. A sign-up bonus counts only if you type one.
How long does it take to save for a vacation?
Divide the gap by what you can move each month. The same $5,500 gap is about 14 months at $400 a month and about 28 months at $200 a month. Type the months you actually have. There is no universal timeline.
How much should I save each paycheck?
Use the weekly target. Paid every two weeks, move two weeks of that amount. The result is that figure for the trip on the page, not a generic percent of income.
How much should I save for a Disney trip?
The Disney calculator publishes about $7,500 all-in for a party of 4, 5 nights, moderate resort (about $6,800–$9,400). The Disney savings preset uses $7,500 so you can see the monthly number, then sends you back to itemize it.
How much should I save for Hawaii or Europe?
The Big Trip page publishes $5,800–$9,200 for a Hawaii couple, 7 nights, and $7,500–$12,500 for a summer Europe couple, 10 days. The Hawaii preset uses $5,800. The Europe preset uses $7,500. Both are the low end of those bands, spread over 12 months.
What is a vacation savings calculator?
It turns a priced trip into monthly cash, weekly cash, and a timeline you can print or share. The preset buttons paste published 2026 bands. They are not a new quote, and this page does not replace the Disney, cruise, or all-inclusive calculators.
What is a trip sinking fund?
Cash you move every month for a vacation, separate from emergency savings. Choose trip sinking fund or set Points offset to cash only. The weekly and monthly targets are then pure cash.
Can I print or share the savings plan?
Yes. Use Print plan or Copy savings link under the result. The link reopens the same trip. No account. After the trip, log what you spent in the trip expense tracker.
Should I put the vacation on a credit card?
This page does not pitch a card. If the monthly cash is more than you can set aside, add months or shrink the trip. The debt version of the question is the vacation debt note.
